# ADHD Therapy for Adults

You are not disorganized because you never tried. You have probably tried harder than most people you know, at things they never had to think about.

## Two Halves of the Work

Adult ADHD work here has two halves and they need each other. One half is practical: getting started, finishing, time that behaves strangely, the email you have opened nineteen times, the appointment you would rather cancel than reschedule. The other half is what you walked in carrying: years of being called lazy, careless, flaky or too much, and the belief underneath that you are getting away with something.

Systems alone rarely hold, because a system built in self-contempt gets abandoned the first week it slips. So we build the structure and we deal with the voice at the same time.

## Executive Function Without the Shame Tax

We look at your actual week rather than an ideal one. Where do things break: initiation, transitions, closing loops, remembering that a thing exists once it is out of sight. Which tasks are genuinely hard for you and which ones are hard because you have been doing them at the worst possible time of day.

Then we build small, forgiving structures: external memory, single obvious places for things, deadlines with a human attached to them, body-doubling, timers used as company rather than punishment, a plan for the recovery day after the big day. When a strategy fails we treat it as information about the strategy, not about you.

Sleep, food and movement come up constantly, not as wellness advice but because ADHD is far harder to manage on four hours of sleep and no lunch.

## Recognizing It in Midlife

A lot of adults find ADHD in their thirties, forties or fifties, often after a child is identified, or after a job changed and the scaffolding they never knew they were relying on disappeared.

That recognition is rarely simple. There is relief, and right behind it there is grief for the schooling, the jobs, the friendships and the version of yourself you spent decades arguing with. Both belong here. We give the grief room instead of rushing to the productivity part.

## Work, Relationships and Rejection Sensitivity

At work we look at what to ask for and how to ask for it, what parts of the role are actually a poor fit, and how to stop volunteering for the thing you cannot sustain. Rejection sensitivity comes up often. A neutral message from a manager can hollow out an afternoon, and there are ways to slow that reaction down before it makes a decision for you.

At home, ADHD often shows up as an unequal load and a partner who has become a manager. Couples sessions can help move that back toward two adults instead of one adult and one supervisor.

## What This Is Not

I do not diagnose ADHD and I do not provide assessment, testing or evaluation. If you want a formal diagnosis or are considering medication, that belongs with an evaluating or prescribing provider, and we can talk about how to approach that conversation.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, so I do not prescribe. Therapy here is available in Eugene or by telehealth across Oregon, and it starts with a free 30-minute call.

Frequent Focus Areas

- Initiation, follow-through and time
- Work fit, accommodations and burnout
- Rejection sensitivity and self-worth
- Late recognition, grief and relief
- Household load and partner dynamics
- Systems that survive a bad week

Next Step

## Start With a Free 30-Minute Call

A short conversation so I can hear what is going on and we can decide together whether this is the right room for it.
