The Room

# A Small, Warm Room in Eugene

Sessions happen in one room with books, games and natural light. Children, teens, adults, couples and families all use the same space.

This page exists so the room is not a surprise. If walking into an unfamiliar building is the hardest part of starting therapy, and for a lot of people it is, you should be able to picture the whole thing before you ever get in the car.

The Building

## Getting to Suite 303

The office is in the Miner Building at 132 E Broadway Suite 303, in the middle of downtown Eugene. It is an ordinary downtown building with shops and other offices in it, not a clinic, and nobody in the lobby knows why you are there.

If getting into the building matters for you, access, parking, how to find the door, anything about the room itself, ask me on the free call and I will tell you exactly what to expect. I would rather you knew before you arrived than found out on the day.

The waiting area is small and quiet. It is not a busy medical reception with a desk and a clipboard. I come out and get you rather than calling your name across a room.

Finding It

## Address and Access

132 E Broadway Suite 303
Eugene, OR 97401

If getting into the building matters for you, access, parking, how to find the door, anything about the room itself, ask me on the call and I will tell you exactly what to expect. I would rather you knew before you arrived than found out on the day.

- Downtown Eugene, on East Broadway, in the Miner Building
- 132 E Broadway, Suite 303, Eugene, Oregon
- Telehealth anywhere in Oregon if coming in person does not work
- Weekend appointments available
- If anything about getting into the building is difficult, call and I will work it out with you

Inside

## What the Room Holds

White walls, wooden shelving, plants, and windows onto trees. Books on the shelves and board games beside them, because I work with children and a game on the table is often what makes talking possible. Adults use them too. Tissues are where you can reach them without asking.

It is a low arousal environment with natural lighting and low noise, and fidget and low stim toys are provided. Alternative seating is available: couch, chair, spinning chair, big pillows and blankets. None of that is decoration. It is there because a person who can move, or hold something, or sit on the floor under a blanket, can usually stay in a hard conversation longer than a person perched politely on the edge of a chair.

You choose where you sit and you can change your mind halfway through. You can keep your coat on. You can face the window instead of me. A child can play on the floor for the whole hour and it still counts as therapy. If the room is too bright or too warm or the chair is wrong, say so and we will fix it, and you will not be the first person to have asked.

On the Day

## Arriving, Early, Late, Leaving

Arrive a few minutes early and take a seat in the waiting area. There is nothing to check in with and nobody to announce yourself to. I will come out at the appointment time.

If you are early, that is fine. Sit and wait, or stay in your car or walk the block and come up at the time, whichever is easier on you. If you are running late, come anyway. A short session is better than a missed one, and we finish at the scheduled time so that the person after you is not pushed back.

If you need to leave the room, leave. Step out, get water, stand in the hall, come back when you are ready. That is not a failure of the session and I will not ask you to explain it. If you need to end a session early, you can. If someone is bringing a child and wants to wait downstairs instead of in the waiting area, that is fine too. Tell me what you need and we will make it work, because I will meet you where you're at.
